THEM.

'THEM'

This whimsical painting was partly influenced by ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs.  This does not represent one single glyph, but has influence from several.  "Them" is a reference to the powers that exist beyond this earth, our higher powers, and is meant to represent a satellite.  But irony is served here as well because we are satellites, according to the definition of the word in my dictionary.  We are meant to be attendants, or guards, of this earth.  Which is quite sad, due to the fact that we are destroying this planet at an alarming rate.  And there just isn't enough concern for this planet by the common citizens.  Our politicians are bought and paid for by corporations so that the corporations can do their damage all in the name of profits and greed, everything else be damned.

For many years of my life, I have wished for change.  I have wished that people who ran for political office and became politicans would not become corrupted by the newfound power that they have.  But I have given up any hope for that idea.  It is a standard practice to run for office, looking for corporate funding so that favors can be repaid once the politician is set in office.  We have seen this practice for decades and at this point I cannot expect anything different.  I no longer make wishes for change, for the change does not come.  I no longer have hope that mankind will reject corporate capitalism, for corporate capitalism is like a virus that is sweeping across our world like a devastating plague that comes by way of greed for more money.  That is what capitalism is based on, desire for money, the more the better.  Corporate capitalism's success is judged on the amount of money that is acumulated by the corporation, and that success usually has its victims, namely the "little people", or those people who don't have a voice against the massive, devastating greed of the plague that is capitalism.

We the people need a huge shakeup in our political system.  I'm talking about the three branches of our Government, as well as the politics of our "two-party" system.  I am beyond bitter, at this point.  I am incredibly disenchanted, and I do not have any hope of this changing any time soon, for I am just one small voice and who's listening to me?

'Star Light, Star Bright'

President Obama gave his second inauguration speech yesterday at his swearing in, and in terms of presidential goals it was quite progressive.  That means he wants to make progress for our society.  Treating all people equally, members of Congress coming together for the good of our Country, addressing global warming, reworking our convoluted tax system, immigration reform, and more.  That is a very optimistic agenda for a sitting President's second term, especially considering that the Republicans in both chambers have their own agenda of obstructionism, regardless of the cost to our Country and its' citizens.

I personally thought that President Obama gave a great inaugural speech for his hstorical second inauguration, but he has a lot to accomplish in a very short time.  He has slightly less than two years to accomplish his stated goals, unless the Democrats are somehow able to keep the Senate and regain control of the House of Representatives in 2014.  If that scenario occurs, then he just might be able to accomplish quite a bit, securing a legacy as one of our greatest Presidents in the history of our democracy.

President Obama's goals are ambitious, to say the least, but if he is able to bring about a renewed spirit of bipartisanship in Washington, D.C.,  we the people will all be better because of it. But I'm not holding my breath.  After all, Washington, D.C. is not known for rapid change and I truly doubt that the Republicans in Congress are going to start working for the good of the American people overnight.  They have too much animosity towards President Obama.  Besides, considering American politics of today, the Republicans believe that working with President Obama and the Democrats would not sit well with their "base".

I wish President Obama the very best of wishes in accomplishing his goals that he has set out for his second term as President of our United States of America.  I believe he honestly is trying to help our Country be a better society, not just for his daughters, but for all of us.  I believe he truly understands the words "We The People".  Too bad the Republicans, with their Tea Party cohorts, do not understand those three words.

With the wishes for the President comes wishes for the Republicans in Congress.  I wish the Republicans in both the House and the Senate can rediscover what it means to be patriotic to our Country and start working with President Obama and the Democrats for the good of We The People, not just for the sake of their own inferior, ignorant, hateful ideology.  These wishes are mine, but I won't be holding my breath.  I'm just wishing for better leadership from all of those elected officials in Washington, D.C., and a renewed spirit of bipartisanship for the good of all of us.

'Little Miss Disappointed'

My area was predicted to receive 3 to 12 inches of snow last night.  This was coming after three days of rain that dropped upwards of 8 inches.  The weather report called for the possibility of blizzard-like conditions after dark.  We got none of that, but the rains did end and gave us clear skies with stars and the moon.  I'm okay with that.  Today is bright and sunny.  Have a nice weekend!

'Woman in Winter'

We are having our first serious snowstorm of the season.  With the rain that we have had for the past three days and below freezing temperatures, traveling will be risky.  Be careful if you have to travel.

In Celebration Of...2

'In Celebration of...'

...the new year.  Here we are again in another January, marking the beginning of another new year, which allows each of us to make a resolution or two for changes that we would like to make in the new year.  Most new year resolutions end up not being fulfilled or carried through to completion.  I normally do not make new year resolutions, although this year I feel I have a reason to attempt to make a personal resolution and follow through with it.  I have gained some unwanted weight over the past two years and would like to get rid of some of it.  Although I have been a fitness buff most of my life, I have pushed physical fitness to the back burner over the past couple years in order to be more productive and creative with my art and pattern-making.  My resolution for 2013 is to start back at exercising and trying to lose some of these extra pounds I'm carrying.  Wish me luck.

For anyone who has made a new year resolution or two, I wish the very best in accomplishing the goal(s).  If success is not achieved this year, there is always next year.  I'm joking about that last sentence, but seriously, Happy New Year to everyone and best wishes for a healthy, happy, and prosperous life, and good luck with the resolutions, if any were made.
