HeartOfOurDemons.

'Heart of Our Demons'

This new painting is not the prettiest piece I have painted, nor is it as dynamic as some of my other work, but I was going for a message.  That message comes from our divided society and while I may have been focusing on the society of the U.S.A., which is my home, the divisions that I was hoping to channel was just as much about our global society because we are seeing a lot of division around the world.  But here in America, the divisiveness appears, at least to my eyes, to begin in the political spectrum.  The governance of our Country is so entrenched in a two-party system that I believe that may be the very root of our division.  We are a society that has grown to be much more diverse than what a two-party system can portray, and it is for this reason that I can foresee a change coming in the not-to-distant future, regarding our political establishment.

If we can break up this two-party system to include, say, three or four political flavors, we will become a better society, in my opinion, because we can finally eliminate the "sports arena" atmosphere of our sociopolitical behavior.  What I mean by the sports arena reference is that with our two-party system, people choose a team and mostly stay loyal to that team and regardless of what that team stands for, people walk into the voting booth and support their team.  That causes a shift in power every few years from one team to the other due to voter turnout and we truly are like a pendulum swinging back and forth.  One team makes progress for the society for a few years and then the other team regains power and drags our society backwards by dismantling the progress that was made by the other team.

If we can bring about change to the two-party system to allow, maybe two other political parties to be represented in our government, I think we can, for the most part, eliminate the sports-arena-like atmosphere of our elections and governance.  This is my opinion, but if changes are to be made, now is the perfect time.  If we, as a society, choose to stay the course with our two-party system, we will never become the "great superpower" that we think we are.  We will only be a self-imposed superpower in name and image only.  It's like building a beautiful, stunning mansion on a hill that is actually built on an unstable foundation of shifting sand.  One day the mansion will collapse into a pile of rubble.

We the people can choose to become a better society, a truly functional Superpower of quality that is built on a foundation of solid bedrock, or we can choose to remain what we have been for a very long time, a dysfunctional self-imposed superpower of low standards with a crumbling foundation.  The choice is up to us, but the time is now.
